The Petzl Am'D Ball-Lock is a D-shaped carabiner from Petzl with an automatic locking system. The D-shape makes the carabiner very suitable for attaching a belay device to your climbing harness. The convenient Keylock system prevents the carabiner from snagging unintentionally. This carabiner can be used in combination with the Petzl Captiv, which keeps the carabiner properly positioned and ensures it is loaded correctly. The Petzl Captiv is listed at the bottom of this page as one of the recommended products.

Ball-Lock locking system

The extra-secure Ball-Lock closure can be opened with one hand by pressing the ball, turning the sleeve, and then opening the gate. You might forget to screw a screw-lock carabiner shut, but with this automatic locking system, that is a thing of the past. The Ball-Lock system is also designated as a "safe-biner" by the NKBV. Unfortunately, a Ball-Lock closure is sensitive to dirt and difficult to operate while wearing (thick) gloves.

H-shaped cross-section

The H-shaped cross-section makes the Petzl Am'D Ball-Lock lighter and ensures a good strength-to-weight ratio. It also keeps the individual serial numbers legible, even after intensive use.
