Description
Hemostatic nasal plugs are not strictly necessary, but they are handy to have on hand if you suffer from regular nosebleeds. Hemostatic nasal plugs promote hemostasis and blood clotting. They are impregnated with a special product that facilitates clotting. Insert a small plug into each nostril, but not too deeply. No more than about two centimeters, as the plugs will need to be removed later. Do not use regular cotton wool or gauze, as these are too soft and will not stop the bleeding.
The contact of absorbent nasal plugs with blood promotes the formation of a clot. The pressure from the cotton plug on the site of the bleeding also helps stop the flow. Do not blow your nose until at least one hour after the treatment. When you do blow your nose afterwards, do so gently so that the clot does not come loose.
